They say that many archetypes Konami has released weren't truly made to be good ones. The truth is, they're right. Unless your favorite archetype is being used by a main or at least recurrent character at the current Yu-Gi-Oh! Anime, new cards probably won't be created. It's even worse if you're a fan of something from Hidden Arsenal or Duel Terminal, but, at least, you know how to not expect anything new. Konami might surprise you with new cards from a forgotten archetype, but sometimes it takes half a decade to do it.
That means we don't see many representatives of every archetype nowadays. After a banlist, no Ice Barriers at all (Trishula). After the XYZs becoming the Extra Deck dominating card, we're start to missing the Ally of Justice (Catastor). Sometimes, no scraps as well (Dragon). I know, the game changes, and we're supposed to adapt ourselves, but exactly how we haven't see anyone in the TCG using any of the cards of the only archetype that actually was built to be an anti-meta?
After a long introduction, let's check our first Koa'ki Meiru card, Doom:
As always, let's check every part of this card effect: It will be destroyed if you don't show any Fiend-Type in your hand to your opponent. Good thing there are Tour Guide From the Underworld, Sangan and Gorz, 5 (nobody uses just one Tour Guide) regular fiends in many decks around there. And Tour Guide brings this card to the field, making it even more usable. If you want, this combo is already enough to make use of a Dark Simorgh, just to render even more your opponent useless.
It's effect is useful against decks like Hieratic, Chaos Dragons (as long you keep their dragons away from the field), Gravekeepers and Dark World. Interestingly enough, Dark World can be the deck that can make the best of this monster, as there are more Fiend-Type monsters to reveal and it can cripple in mirror matches, even if it means risking your own gameplay.
But this card isn't that great as it seems: It's true that most Ignition and Trigger effects of LIGHT and DARK monsters activate in the Main Phase, however, many of these cards works in the Battle Phase: Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning, Lightpulsar Dragon (if you plan to destroy it by battle), Elemental HERO The Shining and Number 39: Utopia (terrible translation). It's a shame that this card acts like a Light/Shadow -Imprisoning Mirror only in a phase. Not stopping the rest of your opponent's moves makes it, somewhat, a weakness.
That's why the Koa'ki Meiru have another card for this:
I still wonder why we don't see this card that much. Although it only works with Dragon-Type decks, it's still a wonderful card to use, even more than mirror matches. Not searchable, but it's usefulness compensates it: high attack, if you consider dragon decks that their attack power comes from Level 5 or more monsters or something from the Extra Deck and a continuous effect that helps a lot these decks that usually don't use many trap cards.
Sadly, is a WIND monster, so it won't work that well with the deck built-in combos, but tell me: what kind of Side Deck card works well with the deck? D.D. Crow may be the only one, but still slows the deck. Like Doom, Drago is better used last, when your combo is complete. Have your Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon revive this card just to finish your opponent and avoid any Gorz or such card.
Both of these cards require caution to play, as they relies on a card in your hand. I'm not saying everybody should use them, but it would be nice to give them a try, and, who knows? Maybe they will be very useful in your Side deck or even Main Deck. Maybe a different Koa'ki Meiru card will work better for you. Just stay open for options and don't overlook these cards.
See'ya all and remember: Play with your brain, not with your money.
