Variety Comes Out

Sorry it took so long. A local tournament kept me busy. My Heroes haven't won, though, but it doesn't matter. It was good to see the damage and the benefits of September's banlist. A lot of Synchro decks that didn't stood a chance a couple of weeks before managed to beat their way to the top, as well as finding a way to bond XYZ monsters in their Extra Deck.

It turns out that the decks are making their way around the banlist as best as possible. Aside from Inzektors, pretty much every deck is able to become meta. Until one shows up, one thing is for sure: After DARK and LIGHT monsters lost most of their power, it's time for EARTH monsters to rise. And there are great XYZ contestants. Let's see some:

One common thought after the banlist was that Emergency Teleport and Psychic Commander would fit in many decks for boosting. Another thought was that EARTH monsters would definitely rule this format as Grandsoil the Elemental Lord has been released. Sure, is a great card, but it somehow reminds so much of how Dark Armed Dragon was introduced to the game. But, above that, one thing is sure: If a deck working with EARTH monsters was going to arise, it had to have some search power and graveyard control.

That's where M-X-Saber Invoker comes in. Being easy to summon, even without Tour Guide or Psychic Commander, it has a great search effect that is handy not only in X-Saber decks but also in many archetype that has a Warrior-type or Beast Warrior-type. Also, it's EARTH, and since the monster will be destroyed anyway, it helps to manage the content in the graveyard.

We've saw recently an unusual deck using this card recently just to search Amazoness Archer to perform effect damage, which is quite useful as Magic Cylinder is now Unlimited. Aside from this and X-Saber, there aren't much more options to be used in a archetype-themed deck. But there's a high chance to see this card in most Extras of Decks that features Grandsoil in it's Main.

Now let's take a look at another card:

There was a time that people were testing Ghost Ship to manipulate the content of the Graveyard and perform better Rank 5 XYZ summons. The principle is quite the same with this card. Some people would feel more comfortable using Gigantes for this task, but this card have more advantages than the Level 4 Monster.

Banishing 2 EARTH monsters might be less tempting than just one with Gigantes, but if the opponent  negate the Rock monster's summon, the number of EARTH will be unaltered at all. Plus, Gigantes could take Bottomless Trap Hole while this card can't. And the effect is sightly better: It only destroys your opponent's spell and trap cards when is sent while face-up to the grave by a card effect. That could mean your own Torrential Tribute, making this card a new Harpie's Feather Duster.

And it's stats just makes it better: after it was properly summoned, not only you can bring it back with Call of the Haunted but also with Limit Reverse. And you can chain those traps to a anything your opponent might use to destroy them just to make this card destroy all his back row of cards. Of course Starlight Road is not that often in most decks nowadays, but it's always better have more options than just Heavy Storm.

Lastly, let's talk about a very unusual card:

Trap Monsters always attracted people for their unusual effects of being treated as monsters while remaining Traps. Many have used them for nearly all purposes: Attacking, defending, using as a tribute, synchro material and recently XYZ summon material. Pretty much what this card does as it requires a Normal Summon of a low-level Warrior. But what makes it better?

First, it copies the Warrior Level, providing a much easier XYZ summon and not restricting it to only a specific Rank. If the Warrior is a tuner, this provides an easier Synchro Summon as well, even though the monster will most likely have an even Level. This also makes possible summoning XYZs that requires Warriors as materials in archetype-themed decks that doesn't have many of this type, like Lightsworns.

Another good use is helping the use of cards that requires a certain number of monsters of some name in the field, like X-Saber Faultroll or Great Shogun Shien. Usually, those decks already have some sort of massive special summon, most likely from the hand. This come in handy if the opponent uses Skill Drain or Effect Veiler to disrupt your strategies. Or, if your deck can handle, you can use it along with Inferno Reckless Summon to bring all copies of the monster you've just copied.

That's all for now. We're starting a new era right now and most of all really don't know where to explore. Most people feel more comfortable using the decks that didn't suffered much with the banlist, but we feel that there's much more out there that can be used, aside from the debuted cards from tournaments.

See'ya all next time and remember: Play with your brain, not with your money.
